Chad Southwick – Owner, Coach

Chad has been involved in CrossFit since 2011 when he and his wife Karen entered Albany CrossFit for the first time. It was love at first WOD, and Chad quickly began learning and growing as an athlete and leader within the community. He received his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate in 2012 and has held a coaching position ever since. Chad earned his CrossFit Level 2 Trainer certificate in 2017. Chad has also completed the CrossFit Gymnastics, Powermonkey Gymnastics, and CrossFit Mobility courses.

Karen Southwick – Owner, Coach

Karen joined CrossFit in 2011 with Chad, after completing her first full marathon in Newport, Rhode Island that fall. Like Chad, Karen quickly grew a love and appreciation for all the teachings CrossFit had to offer, and especially enjoyed the continued challenge of working towards new skills and proficiencies. Karen received her CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate in 2013 as her and Chad opened their first CrossFit gym, CrossFit Aevitas in Guilderland, NY. Karen went on to earn her CrossFit Kids certification in 2018, and her CrossFit Level 2 Trainer certificate in 2018. Karen has completed the CrossFit Gymnastics and CrossFit Mobility courses as well.

Samuel Axten – Coach
Sam has been involved in the CrossFit community since 2006. His journey began in a garage, where he and his older brother worked out and taught themselves the fundamental CrossFit movements by studying videos. He received his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate in 2013 and has held a coaching position ever since. Forever learning, he recently earned his CrossFit Level 2 Trainer and Certified CrossFit Trainer (CF-L3) certificates, making him one of the most credentialed coaches in the Capital Region!
In addition to his passion for CrossFit, Sam is also the resident Olympic Weightlifting Coach of CrossFit Round Lake’s barbell club; Round Lake Weightlifting. He works with athletes of all ability levels, ranging from individuals who are looking to get strong, all the way up to dedicated athletes who compete on the National stage. In 2018, he earned the ranks of a Level 2 Advanced Sports Performance Coach from USA Weightlifting.
Sam attended the Center for Natural Wellness, where he earned his License of Massage Therapy. He uses a holistic approach in the recovery methods we incorporate into our training protocols. To round out his long list of credentials, Sam is also a CrossFit KettleBell Coach. With a focused attention to detail and a deep understanding of the human body, you’re always in good hands with Coach Axten.

Mike Pickering – Coach

Mike joined the Round Lake team in 2016 after completing his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certification. Between his five children and a long list of hobbies, Coach Pick is a busy and motivated man. He is an IRONMAN Triathlete, a Spartan Race runner, a certified CrossFit Pose Running Coach, a certified Spin Instructor, a CrossFit KettleBell Coach, as well as a CrossFit Masters athlete. He also holds an active CrossFit Scaling Course certificate.

Mike served for 15 years in the U.S. Army as an Armor Officer. He was deployed to Iraq from 2004-2005, and in 2011, he spent 100 days in New York City at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks. A proud Veteran, he is an avid supporter of the Memorial Day Murph event, which is held every year at CrossFit Round Lake.

Coach Pick currently holds the Director of EH&S position at North American Industrial Services.

ViTaFIT- $140

This is where you will start your fitness journey with us at CrossFit Round Lake!

Our ViTaFIT program combines functional movements and high intensity to give you a unique 45-minute workout every day.  Our expert coaches ensure exercises are completed safely and effectively, allowing you to get the most out of each session.

No matter your previous exercise experience or current state of fitness, ViTaFIT can work for you! We scale the weights and intensity up or down based on your unique goals and capabilities, allowing you to get the best possible workout for YOU – and ultimately getting you to the results you want to see! This membership auto-renews on a monthly basis and is billed on the 1st of the month.   Buy now.

CrossFit Foundations

For members who would like to get into the CrossFit program, ViTaFIT is where you start (see above).  After 1-3 months in our ViTaFIT program, we’ll have a good understanding of your goals and current capacity, and you’ll have a foundation of functional strength and endurance.  If you choose at this point to move into CrossFit classes, we’ll work with you individually to set up a time to complete the Foundations Course, where we teach proper technique for our more advanced barbell and gymnastics movements seen in the CrossFit program.  Depending on scheduling, the Foundations Course may be completed in a group setting or individually with a coach.  The cost of the program will depend on how it’s implemented (group vs personal sessions), and program cost will include a month in the Elite Membership.  Contact Us to Register for the Next Foundations Course.

Elite - $160

The Elite membership gives the member access to unlimited CrossFit classes and Open Gym times, as well as our specialty classes; Olympic Weightlifting, Spartan SGX, and Mobility class.  Participation in this membership requires completion of the movement foundations course.  Contact us for details on the next course dates. This membership auto-renews on a monthly basis and is billed on the 1st of the month. Weightlifting 10-Pack - $150

The Weightlifting membership gives the member access to 10 Weightlifting classes at a time. It acts like a punch card and it can be repurchased an unlimited number of times. This membership acts like a punch card, but auto-renews for convenience. Good for CrossFit and specialty program classes. Any classes not used one month do not carry over to the following month. For those of you who follow a competitors’ program and just need the space to train comfortably and on your own crazy schedule, this one’s for you!
